Cara Sutra Fantasy Bondage Kit Review
By Carnal Queen.
So you’re interested in sex toys? Since you’re here reading this, I’m going to hazard a guess that you’re also interested in sex toy reviews and sex bloggers, and if that’s the case it’s highly likely that you’ll of heard of the gorgeous Cara Sutra.
Cara Sutra is a well known, award winning blogger and erotic journalist. Having been prevalent in the industry for over 6 years, she’s gained the trust and respect of her readers and industry moguls, not to mention other sex bloggers the world over, she’s a mind of information and a genuinely lovely lady. I’ve recently discovered that she’s a theatre buff like me, so she clearly has amazing taste in the arts too! Yay!
In February 2014, armed with all her knowledge and understanding of the adult product market, she launched her own brand of bedroom bondage essentials – ‘Fantasy’ by Cara Sutra, a beginners bondage kit was born. Available in black or red, it’s a fully comprehensive 8 piece kit for people wanting to experiment and progress in the world of bdsm.
I was aware of the Fantasy kit previously, but hadn’t had the chance to handle any of the items until our recent visit to the ETO show in June. We spent a while chatting with the lovely gentleman on the stand about the individual pieces, the cost involved in manufacture and the overall quality. I was genuinely impressed. Marketed as a beginners kit, the look and feel of the items greatly exceeds that of other entry level pieces by other companies. So, when Cara asked me if I’d like to review a kit for her, I enthusiastically agreed, and a red Fantasy kit was soon gracing my doorstep 🙂
It arrives beautifully presented, and it’s hard to believe that they’ve managed to get the whole kit into such a small box – good things come in small packages though, right?
Inside, in your chosen colour way, you’ll find;
Breathable ball gag
Flogger
Wrist restraints
Ankle restraints
Blindfold
10m of rope
Collar
Clip on leash
There’s also some written information provided by Cara, including how to use the kit, safety tips and details of how to contact Cara, should you have any queries or feedback. A really nice, personal touch!
Right, lets start with the ball gag! I’ll be honest and just get this out there, ball gags are not my thing, and this one is no exception. It’s a simple design, a faux leather strap with rigid plastic ball, which has holes all around it for breathability. There’s nothing wrong with it, although it does kind of remind me of a cats ball, gags just don’t float my boat. I like to use my mouth, or have my mouth used, when enjoying a play session. I also have quite a small mouth (no jokes please), so find opening my mouth wide enough to accommodate the ball quite painful. In the interest of science though, I asked CK to try wearing it, and he found it absolutely fine. Comfortable because of the adjustability provided by the buckles, easy to breathe through because of the air-holes, and generally a fully functioning gag. In terms of play, they’re not his thing either, vocal communication whilst wearing it is reduced to incoherent mumbles … I think I may have just found his Mother’s birthday present!
The flogger is a brilliant piece of kit. Although my kit is red, the 15 fronds, measuring about 12.5 inches each, are black. I actually prefer this to the image of the completely red flogger, so I’m happy! The whole flogger is 19.5 inches long, excluding the hanging loop, and is very lightweight, so it’s a perfect size as an introduction to impact play. I love the versatility of a flogger, they’re great for teasing, tickling, and aren’t going to cause too much offence when used for spanking. For me, it’s more about the visual and the noise it creates rather than the pain it inflicts, but that may just be because I’m used to more brutal implements. Either way, I really do like this flogger, and find it comfortable to hold and use, and even better when I’m on the receiving end of it.
The wrist and ankle restraints are essentially exactly the same, the only difference being the size, the ankle cuffs are obviously bigger. They’re made of faux leather, lined with faux fur, and they feel deliciously soft against the skin. I found that the fur lining needed a brush through to remove any residual bits of fur from the manufacturing process, else they’re likely of shedding a little. Both myself and CK have no issues wearing these, so the adjustability caters for limbs of both males and females, and they’re really comfortable. They attach together via a sturdy chain with keyring type ends, which clip to the attached D-rings on the cuffs. If you have a hogtie, you could also use the cuffs with that. They’re versatile, strong and do the job they’re built to do, huge thumbs up!
The blindfold is a great addition to the kit. Limiting sight is a fantastic way of heightening the senses, and this faux leather, faux fur lined blindfold is really quite good! It blocks light out well, with only the smallest amount able to enter over the bridge of the nose, which is often the case. It’s super comfortable to wear, for both me and CK, and it doesn’t dig in or cause marks on the face after use. I also love how it looks, simple and sexy in red! The rope included in the kit is extremely high quality. It’s soft and supple, and doesn’t cause burns or chaffing in general restraining – obviously if you struggle or resist enough when tied tightly, it’s going to mark you. When measured, our length (Ooo err missus) was 8 metres, so a little short on the 10 metres, but it’s still a great length, and plenty for any ‘beginner’ needs.
The collar is in keeping with the rest of the kit. It’s functional, comfortable and looks pretty sexy when worn. Again, it’s suitable for wear by both sexes, and has a D-ring attached to the front, for clipping on the included leash. The fur lining feels great against the skin and the 2 inch depth allows for good movement by the wearer. The D-ring is well attached and stands up to tugging and pulling with ease. The leash feels much finer in the hand, because it doesn’t have the fur backing. It’s still very hardy and does a great job, as much as leashes do!
So there you have it, the full shebang! A brilliant, all round introduction to bondage play, and if I’m honest, a kit which bridges the often huge gap between total beginner and intermediate player. This kit is high quality and may well appeal to you if you’re not a beginner, but instead looking to replace some of your kit. Maybe you’re a vegan and real leather is not your thing? Maybe you just love the faux fur lining to soften the skin contact? You won’t go far wrong investing in this. I think at just £69 it offers fabulous value for money when you compare it to buying individual pieces of similar quality, and I think it’s appeal is far reaching, as the kit is totally unisex, especially in the black option.
Ball gag aside, I think it’s fabulous, I really do, and I think it will continue to form part of my frequently used kit for years to come.
Cara Sutra kindly provided the Fantasy kit for free, in exchange for an honest and unbiased review, this does not alter my opinions or experiences in any way. If you’d like your own Fantasy kit, you can pick one up from here.
